Book Review: Oliver Twist by Focus on the Family

Oliver Twist by Focus on the Family is a full cast dramatization presented on 5 CDs. The cast is diverse and their accents really draw you into the time period of the story. I was also very impressed with the music, it sets the mood perfectly.

The presentation stays true to the classic story. Using a narrator to set scenes and sound effects to make you feel like you are there with them. The voice actors for Bill Sykes and Oliver Twist are awesome.

I really enjoyed the presentation and plan to listen to it again in a short time. I would recommend this for any family to sit down and enjoy a classic tale told in a way that will entertain all.

Book Review: A Year with G. K. Chesterton By Kevin Belmonte

I LOVE daily readers. I start each day with my Daily Bread and Patriot’s Almanac readings. I have another daily reader I use at night and now I have added A Year with G. K. Chesterton By Kevin Belmonte to my routine.

Now I must confess, all though I have heard of GK Chesterton I did not know much about him. I have seen his quotes from time to time and thought of him as a very insightful person. This daily reader has sky rocketed my opinion of his intelligence.

I must also confess that at times his insights that are shared in this reader are bit over my head and take a lot of thinking to comprehend, but they have also inspired me to think more on what I am reading and have added to my consciousnesses.

So, if you are looking for a daily reader that will challenge you to think more, this is your book. Unfortunately if you are prefer a quick read to get you started in the morning, you may want to pass this one up for now.

Book Review: All Pro Dad By Mark Merrill

All Pro Dad By Mark Merrill is a wonderful instruction book that will inspire any father to want to become an All Pro Dad. Starting with the idea that it takes hard work and discipline to reach the status of an All Pro athlete, Mark Merrill says that if men put that kind of effort in to being fathers that they would see great results in the lives of their children.

The book is broken up into to easy to understand sections that littered with stories and thoughts from many famous fathers. From Tony Dungy to Truett Cathy, you get advice from fathers that know what it is like to raise children in America.

I would recommend this book to any father that is looking for advice to take their game to the next level. God bless you Mark Merrill.

Book Review: The Coming Revolution By Dr. Richard Lee

Today I am reviewing “The Coming Revolution: Signs from America’s Past That Signal Our Nation’s FutureBy Dr. Richard Lee”. Up front I will say that I have been a fan of several other books written by Dr Lee. He brings a strong biblical view to American history. So I was excited to read this book and see what Dr Lee had to say about current events.

From page one you get the sense that this book is a hand book for the modern conservative Tea Party movement that has swept across America since 2009. With the ever increasing national Debt and the increased feeling of being ignored by our leaders in Washington, the conservative majority in America has become active in our political process once again and this book shows how it parallels what happened during the first American Revolution.

I would recommend this book for anyone that would like to learn a little about American history, get a look into where the modern Tea Party movement gets it’s foundation and why many are worried that we are nearing a point that changing politicians may not be enough to right things. Thankfully it is not too late at this time to make change through our political process and this book explains why.

Ever wonder why…?

Recently President Obama made a speech about with drawing our troops from Afghanistan, no word on the ones still in Iraq unfortunately, and set a time table to complete the withdrawal. You would think that the “terrorists” and “militants” in Afghanistan would be happy to see us leave their country, so what do they do to celebrate us leaving? They bomb a bunch a stuff.

That doesn’t make sense to me. If they bomb stuff and show that the Afghan government can not keep the peace then it will cause us to stay there longer. Wouldn’t make more sense for these bad people to take a break and allow things to look peaceful so the evil Americans leave? Once our troops where out of their country it would be harder for us to return so they would then be free to do what ever they wanted.

Now a thinking person might read a book like “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man” and think that maybe someone is bombing that stuff and making it look like it is “terrorists” and “militants” doing it in order to keep us in the country longer. Of course all those buildings getting bombed will need to be rebuilt, and there is a lot of money to be made in construction in Afghanistan after this.

Where will you be Friday 4/15/2011?

April 15th in America has become known as Tax Day. Three years ago it became Tea Party Day. This year it becomes the Day Atlas Shrugged is released.

The iconic book by Ayn Rand is finally going to be released as a movie, and from the looks of the trailer it is being done right. The movie title is Atlas Shrugged part 1, and according to the studio part 2 will be released next year and part 3 the year after. Here, watch the trailer:

I still plan to attend the West Orlando Tea Party Rally at Lake Eola in Orlando, Sen Marco Rubio and Herman Cain will be speaking, but I will definitely be making time to attend this premier.

Book Review: Slave by Dr. John MacArthur

Dr. John MacArthur is among one of my favorite preachers, today or ever. What I like best about Dr. MacArthur is his refusal to scratch inching ears and sticks to strict Sola Scriptura. In his new book Slave, Dr. MacArthur takes on the trend to soften our service for Christ. Dr. MacArthur lays open the scripture that shows that we are to be slaves, in the strictest meaning of the word, to Christ and why it is important.

I recommend this book to any Christian that feels that they are looking for a reason to serve more. If you feel that you need motivation to give more of your life to Christ, read this book and you will never doubt your role again.

Book Review: The American Patriot’s Almanac

Wow. That about says it all about this book. If you want a great way to see the scope of American history, a little at a time, get this book. The American Patriot’s Almanac offers tidbits of American history for each day of the year. You get a main essay about a significant event in American history, followed by a handful of headline events that took place on that date.

What I really liked about this book is that it covers the entire history of America, from the founding until today. Also, the even essay on each page is easy to read and is a great addition to your day. I plan on reading each page with my family, every day, starting Jan. 1. So you have a couple of weeks to go out and get your own copy and make American History a part of your family.

How did the Sec Treasury in 1939 view stimulus?

When he became president in 1934, FDR’s Secretary of Treasury was his close personal friend Henry Morgenthau. After 5 years of government stimulus through the holy “New Deal” Mr Morgenthau addressed the congressional ways and means committee and said: “We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and if I am wrong … somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises … I say after eight years of this Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started … And an enormous debt to boot!”

Do we need to re-elect Obama in 2012 before we hear Democrats admit that stimulus doesn’t work? or should we learn from our past and listen to the words of the original stimulus spending Democrats and stop the spending now?

For a history of the failed “new deal” I suggest reading “New Deal or Raw Deal” by Burton Folsom Jr. The author has a clear bias against FDR, but presents enough factual statistics to support his opinion that you have to agree with him on the failure of the “new deal” programs. It is blind party loyalty that will prevent people from accepting the truth of the facts presented by Mr Folsom.

Book Review: A Leader’s Heart 365-Day Devotional Journal By John C. Maxwell

“A Leader’s Heart” is a wonderful tool to help you keep your focus on God when leading in any area of your life. I have been a fan of Dr Maxwell for years and this book did not fail to add.

Each day you are presented with a bible verse, a tid bit of wisdom from Dr Maxwell and an area to add your thoughts. I find it a successful exercise to write down your thoughts.

I plan on getting additional copies of this book for my coworkers. This makes a great gift for anyone that is in a business environment, not just your boss. I was encouraged and motivated to make a difference from reading this.

Christmas is right around the corner, this will be a remember-able gift to anyone you give it to. Highly recommended.
