Book Review: Slave by Dr. John MacArthur

Dr. John MacArthur is among one of my favorite preachers, today or ever. What I like best about Dr. MacArthur is his refusal to scratch inching ears and sticks to strict Sola Scriptura. In his new book Slave, Dr. MacArthur takes on the trend to soften our service for Christ. Dr. MacArthur lays open the scripture that shows that we are to be slaves, in the strictest meaning of the word, to Christ and why it is important.

I recommend this book to any Christian that feels that they are looking for a reason to serve more. If you feel that you need motivation to give more of your life to Christ, read this book and you will never doubt your role again.

Book Review: A Leader’s Heart 365-Day Devotional Journal By John C. Maxwell

“A Leader’s Heart” is a wonderful tool to help you keep your focus on God when leading in any area of your life. I have been a fan of Dr Maxwell for years and this book did not fail to add.

Each day you are presented with a bible verse, a tid bit of wisdom from Dr Maxwell and an area to add your thoughts. I find it a successful exercise to write down your thoughts.

I plan on getting additional copies of this book for my coworkers. This makes a great gift for anyone that is in a business environment, not just your boss. I was encouraged and motivated to make a difference from reading this.

Christmas is right around the corner, this will be a remember-able gift to anyone you give it to. Highly recommended.

Book Review: You Were Made to Make a Difference By Max Lucado and Jenna Lucado Bishop

You Were Made To Make A Difference by Max Lucado and Jenna Lucado Bishop is an adaptation of Out Live Your Life by Max Lucado. The overall message Lucado delivers in Out Live is the same, but presented in a format more suitable for a teenager.  Because of this I enlisted the assistance of my daughter to review this book.

We both enjoyed the format of the book because it did not look like a text book, it reminded me of a teenagers journal. The thought of the authors is presented in small bites that allows the reader to take time each day to read and think about what they read. We took time each day to discuss what we read, this opened up some great conversations between my daughter and I.

I would recommend this for any other father that is looking for a way to connect with his teenage daughter. It probably work with Moms, Sons and any combination of.

Book Review – Free Book by Brian Tome

Free Book

Free Book* I am a fanatic about freedom. And I’m fanatical about coming at you hard in this book. I’m tired of seeing people beaten down by the world’s systems and by religion. I’m sick of seeing people live safe, predictable lives while their God-given passion dies By Brian Tome

This book must set the record for the longest title I have ever seen. I enjoy reading books that try to motivate me in some way or encourages me to take action in some way. I then run that information through the filters I trust, God and logic, then see how it fits into my life course. This book was confusing me from page one.

The author, Brian Tome, had a great point to make but I feel he garbled it up with some ideas that I disagreed with. The premise of the book is that as a Christian we are given a level of freedom that allows to do whatever we want to. I agree with this statement, to a point. I think what he misses is the fact that even after being born again and accepting the gift of salvation from Jesus who is the Christ we still have the sin nature of the flesh to battle against. We would loose the battle against that sin nature if we where to think we could do what ever we want to. That is why I run new ideas through my God filter, the Bible, to make sure it is not what I want but what Jesus wants for me.

If you remove any references to doing what you want, Brian Tome has some really good things to say. He points out some big thoughts that most Christians glaze over, like the existence of a spiritual world that interacts with our physical world. He also gives good advise for dealing with “roadblocks” we have in our personalities that prevent us from having a complete relationship with Jesus as God describes in His holy word.

I would recommend that only people that are confident in their Christian walk read this book. Some young Christians could get some bad ideology out of this book.
